At TeamKids, we’re committed to creating safe, inclusive, and engaging environments where every child feels supported – and where our Educators feel confident and equipped to guide positive behaviour.
To strengthen this commitment, we’ve partnered with the Youth Engagement Project to co-design a dedicated Behaviour Guidance Training program. This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that all the children feel safe, included, and connected when they attend a TeamKids program – and that our staff feel supported every step of the way.
A Consistent, Proactive Approach
The training equips staff with clear, practical strategies to guide behaviour positively and build stronger relationships with the children. It introduces consistent, actionable steps that Educators can apply across all programs, streamlining the way similar behaviour scenarios are handled.
Also, it aims to remove uncertainty in the moment. We know that managing challenging behaviour can sometimes feel overwhelming or isolating. This training offers a structured approach and reinforces that staff are never alone – clear processes and support systems are in place to help.
Ultimately, it’s about promoting emotional safety and wellbeing for both the children and Educators.
“Great leadership starts with understanding the diverse needs of the children and teams we support. This training is a powerful step in creating inclusive, safe, and responsive environments across TeamKids, and we’re proud to invest in this kind of professional growth.” – Michael Ford, TeamKids Chief Operations Officer.
Phased Rollout to Support All Staff
The training began with our Regional Managers, who completed a five-week course through live virtual sessions. This allowed us to pilot the material and set expectations, giving us a starting point to embed the learning across the business.
It has since been extended to our Mentors and Program Managers, who are completing the same five-week course. These key leaders play a vital role in modelling and supporting behaviour guidance strategies within their teams.
The next phase is to roll out the training to all TeamKids Educators via our Litmos Training Platform, ensuring that every staff member – at every level – receives the same high-quality support and learning.
Strengthening Outcomes for Children
This training is an important step in building a shared language and consistent approach across all our programs. We’ll continue to review and evolve the content based on staff feedback and emerging best practice to ensure it remains relevant and impactful.
If you’d like to learn more or have questions about how it’s being implemented at your school, please reach out to your TeamKids Partnerships Manager – we’re always happy to chat.
