Usually, when we think about confidence in children, we often think about the big milestones – performing on stage, speaking up in class, or achieving something new. But, confidence is actually built in the smaller, everyday moments.

And, did you know? Active play is one of the most powerful ways that children can develop that confidence.

Whether it’s trying a new game, learning a skill, or simply giving something new a go, movement-based activities create opportunities for children to challenge themselves in a fun and low-pressure way.

Research shows that 6 out of 10 (62%) Australian families say that the time their child spends on small screens impacts the amount of time they spend doing physical activity.

Through active play, children learn to:

  • Take safe risks
  • Build resilience when things don’t go to plan
  • Celebrate progress, not perfection

At TeamKids, our termly challenges, like The TK Big Skip, in partnership with Dairy Farmers, are designed with this in mind. It may seem simple, but skipping rope can offer endless opportunities for growth – from mastering the basics to trying new tricks, and setting personal goals.

And, just as importantly, it’s social. Our children cheer each other on, share ideas, and celebrate other’s achievements. That sense of connection plays a big role in building self-belief.

TeamKids focuses on creating environments where children feel safe to try, are supported to grow, and are encouraged to keep going. We know that confidence doesn’t come from getting everything right – it comes from having the courage to give it a go.
