Over 1,300 children had a BALL at the Coles Healthy Kicks excursions at the Melbourne Showgrounds these Autumn school holidays. It was the BIGGEST excursion event that we’ve run since 2018!

What is Coles Healthy Kicks?

TeamKids partnered with AFL Max and Coles to run Coles Healthy Kicks. It’s a program designed to educate and motivate children to become more physically active, eat nutritious food, develop a healthy mind, and make new friends.

We were so lucky to have real AFL players join us across the two days in April! We got to meet and kick a footy with:

  • Anthony Scott (Western Bulldogs)
  • Karl Amon (Hawthorn)
  • Peter Wright (Essendon)
  • Zac Williams (Carlton)

We were even luckier to take home an official Coles Healthy Kicks cap and enjoy some yummy, fresh fruit on the bus ride back to service.

What happened each day?

The program was divided into four equal ‘quarters’ and each day ran like this:

Quarter 1: Healthy Body – Let’s Get Physical!

We were so hyped up to start our day with the program’s first quarter – Healthy Body! The children participated in a range of fun fitness activities run by the AFL Max Educators. They ran through group fitness challenges that encouraged physical activity and movement.

Quarter 2: Healthy Mind – Mindfulness and Brain Teasers

Our focus turned to mindfulness and problem-solving for the second quarter of the program – Healthy Mind. The AFL Max Educators led the children through helpful breathing exercises and challenging brain teasers. They were encouraged to stay focused and think creatively to solve the puzzles together.

Quarter 3: Healthy Food – Foodie Fun

We aimed our attention towards lifestyle and nutrition for the program’s third quarter – Healthy Food. The children learnt the importance of healthy eating habits through entertaining food activities. They discovered more about the food we eat and the healthy food types that give us the most amount of ENERGY!

Quarter 4: Healthy Team – Working Together and Kicking Goals

We worked as one for the last quarter of the program – Healthy Team! The children supported each other and learnt the importance of teamwork. They were led by Western Bulldogs star, Anthony Scott and AFL Max Educators in team games that encouraged collaboration, communication, and leadership.

Anthony inspired the children saying, “If you put your head down and do the work, then there’s no reason you can’t achieve your goals.”

TeamKids is so excited to make health and wellness FUN! The Coles Healthy Kicks program helps children develop healthy habits and a positive mindset through fun and engaging activities.

Does your child want a piece of the action? Or experience the magic all over again? TeamKids is incredibly excited to have partnered with AFL Max to offer Coles Healthy Kicks during future Vacation Care programs! So, keep an eye out for our updates!
